Bailey Road Park

Bailey Road Park encompasses over 57 acres located off Hwy 115 at the corner of Bailey Road.  The Park provides a variety of recreational opportunities and site amenities.  The Park includes two lighted soccer fields and a football field.  There are also three lighted tennis courts, as well as two lighted baseball/softball fields.  Two shelter areas with picnic tables and public restrooms are also located on the park site.  Other amenities include outdoor basketball courts, an asphalt walking trail, two playground areas and a popular nine hole disc golf course.

Construction of an outdoor Band Shell was completed in the Fall of 2007.  This laminated, wood structure is located on the north side of the park near the soccer fields and will provide the opportunity for more diverse programming and special events related to cultural, musical and theatrical needs.

 
Glen Oak Green Park

The Town of Cornelius opened its ninth park in November 2006. Glen Oak Green Park encompasses over four acres and is located in the Oakhurst subdivision.  Through careful planning and input from residents of the neighborhood, the Park was designed to meet additional leisure needs in a growing area of Cornelius.

The Park includes a variety of options to choose from.  There is a play unit for 2-5 year old children as well as a “climbing rock” for those participants over the age of 5.  The swing structure includes two bucket swings for infants and toddlers, two belt and two handicap accessible swings for children to enjoy.  A gazebo located with a picnic table is conveniently located near these play amenities.  A multipurpose field is also located on site for various recreation activities and programs.  An asphalt trail, along with permanent benches throughout the park provide for a relaxing environment. 

 
Jetton Road Neighborhood Park

This park encompasses close to six acres of open space off Jetton Road.  The park includes a tree-lined, gravel walking trail as well as picnic areas.  A multi-purpose field is centrally located in the park and can accomodate many activities including lacrosse, soccer and football.

 
Legion Park

Legion Park is located in the heart of old town Cornelius and offers a playground, picnic shelter (may be reserved), lighted ball field, concession area, walking trail and indoor restroom facilities. A new historic marker and bench is situated beside the old spring (Spring Street). It highlights the historic significance of the spring which was a source of water for the Town. It was also an early encampment site for Revolutionary War soldiers.
 
McDowell Creek Greenway / Bikeway

Planning efforts are underway for the design and development of the McDowell Creek Greenway / Bikeway project.  Cornelius’ first segment of greenway, the Town received an Enhancement Grant from the North Carolina Department of Transportation to develop a 1,700’ section of trail that will start at Westmoreland Road.  In addition to the Enhancement Project, the Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department is planning an additional trail segment that will begin to the south of the Town’s project – adding another 6,000 linear feet.  Combined, these two (2) projects will connect the Westmoreland Road area to Birkdale Village with more than one (1) mile of greenway trail.
 
Smithville Park

Located in the historic Smithville Community, Smithville Park includes numerous leisure activities and amenities.  The park encompasses close to nine acres off Catawba Avenue.  Amenities include a picnic shelter with tables, playground equipment for children ages 2- 12 and public restrooms. The shelter is available for reservations and rental purposes for birthday parties, reunions, etc. The park also includes two lighted baseball/softball fields, batting cage and a multi-purpose field used for lacrosse, soccer and special events.  

 
Torrence Chapel Park

This popular park includes a picnic shelter (call to reserve), two lighted ball fields, lighted tennis courts, basketball court, walking trails and indoor restroom facilities.

 
Yacht Club Park Playground
This unique playground is located at the corner of Flying Jib and Harborlight Boulevards in The Peninsula. Entitled "the Galleon," the playground theme reflects the boats harbored at the nearby Peninsula Yacht Club. It also provides, through a unique lease arrangement with the Peninsula Property Owners Association, a "safe harbor" for all children in the community
 
Walter Henderson Park

Located at the corner of Walter Henderson Road and Backcourse Lane, the park is a peaceful retreat in growing Cornelius. It includes a walking trail, playground, gazebo and play meadow.
