Have fun learning about the amazing human body and take charge of keeping healthy and safe. Each day we will explore a different system in the body. Age appropriate information will be shared using yoga postures, breathing, music, art, literature and games. Participants will not only gain a fuller understanding of the wonder of our body systems, but will also learn lifelong skills for self care. All this in a fun, non-competitive style. Taught by certified yoga instructor Amy Schneider from Community Yoga.

MATHNASIUM Ages: 6-11 Week 6: July 26-30 Multiplication & Division Week 7: August 2-6 Fractions & Percents Week 8: August 9-13 Time & Money Cost: $100/resident $110/non-resident Location: Bailey Road Recreation Center
These camps are designed to improve each student's fluency with math concepts. By combining math instruction with indoor and outdoor games and incorporating Math Munchies, participants will explore the world of math while building their confidence and forging a positive attitude toward the subject. Here's more: Multiplication & Division: Campers will learn how to skip count and add. You'll be amazed by the difference just one week can make! Fractions, Decimals, Percents: These concepts are presented in such a visual and practical way that campers will gain a quick and lasting knowledge. Get ready to have them looking at pizza in a whole new way! It's exciting to see them hungry for more! Time & Money: Campers will participate as clerks and shoppers in a "store" in order to practice money recognition. We will have them wanting you to ask them the time!

PERFORMING ARTS

DANCE AROUND THE WORLD Ages: 7-12 Week 3: June 28-July 2 1:00pm-4:00pm Cost: $55/resident $65/non-resident Location: Bailey Road Recreation Center
Take an imaginary journey around the world by learning dances influenced by movements from specific countries, including ballet classics, African rhythms, classic jazz and a little hip-hop. Dance teacher Kimberly Walcott will help campers fill their Dance Passports with vocabulary and stamps from the places they will explore through dance, music, video clips and maps.
DANCE UNDER THE SEA Ages: 5-7 Week 7: August 2-6 1:00pm-4:00pm Cost: $55/resident $65/non-resident Location: Bailey Road Recreation Center
Learn about the oceans and what's underneath through movement, map and photo books, fun music and video clips. Dancers will practice ballet fundamentals with Penguin and Mermaid dances, do a little soft shoe with the Grumpy Little Octopus and hip-hop "Under the Sea". Each dancer will create a keepsake book and join an open performance on Friday for parents and friends. Led by Kimberly Walcott.

Each day campers will enjoy fun, active warm-ups, play games and learn the basics of a specific Latin or Ballroom dance with instructors from the Havana Social Club. There will be performances, judges and a showcase at the end of the week! Dances will include Waltz, Foxtrot, Merengue, Salsa and Tango.

ROCK STAR 101 Ages: 11-15 Week 1: June 14-18 1:00pm-4:00pm Cost: $75/resident $85/non-resident Location: Bailey Road Recreation Center
Beginners or participants with moderate experience will learn finger exercises and strumming techniques and be introduced to concepts such as open strings and power chords. Campers should bring their own acoustic or electric guitar. Led by well-respected and sought-after Charlotte area musician Mike Hager.

Become a star among your peers! This drama camp will expose your budding performers to improvisation, acting techniques, stage presences, skits, and voice animations, using costumes and props. Directed by Valerie Kasmir of Lessons on the Lake.

BLAST OFF INTO SPACE! Ages: 7-11 Week 3: June 28-July 2 9:00am– 12:00pm Cost: $140/resident $150/non-resident Location: Bailey Road Recreation Center
Budding rocket scientists will explore the fundamentals of rocketry and space travel. Learn about outer space as we look at the stars and solar system. Work on projects to take home including a simple telescope, a propeller-powered space orbiter and a fully functional rocket. Build and launch different types of rockets during the week and on the last day of camp, launch the solid fuel rocket you built into space and watch it return to earth by parachute before taking it home to show your friends. A Mad Science camp!
CRAZY CHEMWORKS Ages: 6-11 Week 5: July 19-23 9:00am-12:00pm Cost: $140/resident $150/non-resident Location: Bailey Road Recreation Center
This action-packed camp explores the chemistry of everyday life! Kids will both learn and apply the concepts, tools and techniques of real chemists. Campers will learn real lab techniques and safety procedures, and use these throughout the week to mix crazy concoctions and chemical combo's. They will experiment with super-sticky stuff, explore glow-in-the-dark technology, mix potions, make slime and grow crystals! Each camper will take home a full set of Mad Science lab gear!

CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION (CSI) Ages: 11-14 Week 1: June 14-18 9:00am-12:00pm Cost: $40/resident $50/non-resident Location: Cornelius Police Department
Instead of learning a new cheer or building a campfire this summer, come and join the Cornelius Police Department as they lead this unique CSI camp. Participants will be involved in creating staged crime scenes while learning about equipment used to solve crimes such as use of cameras, dusting for fingerprints and more!

What hidden stories can we find in rocks, sand and fossils? Discover the world around us, from oceans to mountains and volcanoes to earthquakes. Have fun sifting for gems and uncovering dinosaur bones. Learn about the awesome forces of nature that shape our world and learn what fossils and shells tell us about the creatures of the earth. Take-home projects are created each day as we let our imaginations soar! A Mad Science camp!
RED HOT ROBOTS Ages: 8-12 Week 6: July 26-30 9:00am– 12:00pm Cost: $150/resident $160/non-resident Location: Bailey Road Recreation Center
Join Mad Science for a week of thrills as we will explore how robots are used in our world and have fun experimenting with super cool sound-sensing, line-tracking and amphibious robots. Young scientists will discover the science of electronic circuits and how robots use sensors to explore things around them. Build your very own sound-activited robot and test out your new friend on an obstacle course before taking it home at the end of the week.

Step into the shoes of a detective with Mad Science and uncover the science involved in evidence gathering and analysis. Become a super sleuth and learn clever ways of performing tasks in this hands-on view of the science that spies use. From decoding messages to metal detectors and night vision, campers will have the opportunity to check out spy equipment and discover the technological tools of detection!
SIZZLING SUMMER SCIENCE Ages: 6-11 Week 2: June 21-25 1:00pm-4:00pm Cost: $140/resident $150/non-resident Location: Bailey Road Recreation Center
Science is all around us...from nature and chemicals to buildings and sports! Explore how science applies to all these areas as we concentrate on a different theme each day. Explore the animal kingdom and learn about protecting our earth. Learn about nature's strongest structures and our own natural abilities. The world will never look quite the same after attending this Mad Science camp!
TOP GUN FLIGHT ACADEMY Ages: 6-11 Week 8: August 9-13 9:00am-12:00pm Cost: $140/resident $150/non-resident Location: Bailey Road Recreation Center
Children will have a hands-on experience exploring different types of aircraft and other objects that fly. Basic principals of flight and aerodynamics will be investigated by building airplanes, testing them in wind tunnels, and building a hovercraft and balloon copter. Investigate how early "pilots" navigated while building a sextant and sundial. Campers will take home a rubber band-powered airplane, various paper airplane designs, balloon copters, boomerangs, a mini Frisbee, and an intermediate level Estes rocket. A Mad Science camp!

Discover how to use your camera with ease! Learn about exposure, lighting, composition, and color in an outdoor setting. Create a journal to keep your memories and chart your progress. Campers must bring their own 35mm or digital camera, but the camera must have manual controls. Camp cost includes materials for a photographic journal but does not include film or processing. Taught by Bailey Middle School art teacher Jamie Thibodeaux.

How many things can you do with beads? Join Kathleen Reeder, owner of The Bead Lady store located in Historic Downtown Concord, as we make some of today’s most exciting crafts! You'll work with seed beads, glass beads, buttons, decoupage and more! Every day of this newly designed camp will bring something unique.

Junk, junk and more junk! You will learn about recycling, reducing and reusing as we take junk and scraps and turn them into beautiful art masterpieces. "Go Green" and see where your imagination will take you! Led by the creative folks from the Children's Arts Project.

This camp promises to be messy and fun!! Projects will be dripping with paint, ink, paper mache', glue and clay. Messy is our primary ingredient, mixed with a little imagination for creating 2-D and 3-D works of art. So roll up your sleeves and prepare for fun!! Neverland to Wonderland - Peter Pan meets Alice in Wonderland - the possibilities are endless! Students will explore many different forms of art while creating their own whimsical characters. Got tape? We're rolling out the fun and creativity with duct tape! Convert the so-so into the so, so awesome: make 'n wear belts, wallets, bracelets, bags and even sandals! Create flowers, "paintings" and more - it's endless - that's duct tape artistry! Join the Children's Arts Project for this unique camp!

Spend a week painting everything from still life to landscape to fantasy. Learn to mix colors in acrylic, tempera and watercolor.
