Therapeutic Recreation Programming

A variety of fun programs are available to children with special needs. The focus is ABILITY not disability! Therapeutic Recreation uses treatment, leisure education and recreation participation to help people with illnesses, disabilities and other conditions to develop and use their leisure in ways that enhance their health, functional abilities, independence and quality of life. Join in the fun for a variety of activities in Cornelius, Davidson and Huntersville. Financial assistance is available to residents of Cornelius, Davidson and Huntersville. Summer CampsThe following Therapeutic Recreation Summer Camps are offered as a joint program between Cornelius PARC, Huntersville Parks & Recreation, and Davidson Parks & Recreation.

Music and Art Camp
|
Music Therapist, Anna-Catherine Fowler will lead and engage campers in singing and dancing activities. An art project will be offered each day. Camp counselors will lead and engage children in a variety of activities including: fine motor games, storytime, legos, puzzles, blocks, small group games and skee ball. A snack will be provided. Bring your own drink.

Multi-Sport and Games Camp
|
Physical Education Instructors will lead sport activities and physical games in the gym. Activities will include basketball, soccer, baseball, scooters, parachute and group games. Camp counselors will lead and engage children in a variety of activities including: fine motor games, storytime, legos, puzzles, blocks, small group games and skee ball. A snack will be provided. Bring a drink.

Learn to Bowl Camp
|
Children will learn the skills of the sport of bowling and practice all week. Activities include: tour of the center and behind the lanes, cosmic bowling, pizza party (additional $3) and tokens to be used after check out at the arcade on the last day. There will be a quiet room reserved for us to play games, legos, puzzles, read, complete fine motor activities, and enhance social skills. Snack and drink provided.

Welcome to the Jungle!
|
Centered around a jungle and animal theme, safari campers will engage in a movement activity (provided by dance instructor, Jenny Griffes), craft project, reading time, games and snack each day. Snack provided. Bring a drink.

Baseball
|
Children will be given the opportunity to socialize with teammates, learn basic baseball skills; and practice catching, throwing, fielding and hitting with peers and staff. Let's Play Ball!
