New Trail at Bailey Road Park
|
Did you know... there is a new nature trail at Bailey Road Park? The trail was created by Joe
Palamara Jr. who is currently a Life Scout in the Boy Scouts of
America (BSA) Troop 82, located at Community in Christ Lutheran
Church in Cornelius, as his Eagle Scout Service Project. This 1350 foot walking trail will guide visitors through the wooded area behind the soccer fields allowing trail users to enjoy the feeling of being deep in the forest. The trail is clearly marked so there is no need to worry about making a wrong turn and getting lost. The focus for creating this trail was to allow for the enjoyment of the outdoors and also to create habitat for some local wildlife. Fifteen bird houses and four bat boxes were installed along the trail to provide a safe place for these animals to nest. There are also stretching posts at either entrance of the trail, providing a place to warm up prior to experiencing the trail or a resting place after completing the walk.
Joe worked with the Cornelius Department of Parks, Arts, Recreation & Culture (PARC) to develop the idea and location for the trail. The completed service project represents approximately 200 hours of planning and execution work by Joe, members of his and other Boy Scout Troops and Packs as well as others in the community. Generous donations from local area residents, many who have assisted Joe in his journey toward the rank of Eagle Scout, covered the costs of the materials necessary to complete this project.
Come out to Bailey Road Park to enjoy this newly added nature trail. For more pictures click here.
